Our Story. . .
Big
Brothers Big Sisters of America is the premier national mentoring
organization and for more than 100 years has been matching caring
mentors with children. This tradition is reflected in
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America’s mission statement which reads, in
part:
“The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is to
make a positive difference in the lives of children and youth...and to
assist them in achieving their highest potential as they grow to become
confident, competent and caring individuals...”
Big Brothers Big
Sisters of Madisonville-Hopkins Co. has been providing one-to-one
services since 1987. As a Big Brothers Big
Sisters of America affiliate, we are committed to the standard of
excellence set forth by our predecessors and benefit from the technical support and expertise of a
proven organization who has been a pioneer in mentoring programs.
The
Community and Site Based Mentoring Programs were developed by Big
Brothers Big Sisters
to allow qualified volunteers to become mentors to at-risk children and youth.
The primary goal of both programs is to give children between the
ages of 6 and 12 the opportunity to improve their learning skills
and self-esteem through individualized attention.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has 100 years of
experience training mentors and identifying at-risk youth. The
agency is respected in Hopkins and Muhlenberg counties and we have the support of community
leaders. Teachers,
principals, school counselors, and parents are also very accommodating
of the both programs.
